Hydraulic elevator :

1- At present, hydraulic elevators are elevators in which the ascent is by injecting oil under pressure through a group of valves, from the tank to the piston, which consists of a cylinder and a piston responsible for supporting the cabin.

2-For this reason, it is known by this name because the hydraulic machine, which is responsible for increasing or decreasing the pressure of the piston, is filled with oil: when the cabin rises, it expels the oil. When he comes down, he picks it up.

3-Inside hydraulic elevators, there are two types. Those who have direct thrust are those in which every centimeter of the piston travels, as the cabin will travel the same distance.

4-On the other hand, in those with indirect traction (or differential drive), for every centimeter of piston travel, the cabin will move twice: that is, two cents. This is possible because they use a cable pulley system.

A question of differences: hydraulic lift vs. electric lift

1-The main difference between the two is determined by the drive. Electric drives require an electric motor that is activated when the cabin is raised and lowered.

2- On the other hand, as we said earlier, the hydraulic components use a motor in addition to a pump responsible for injecting oil, which works only when the elevator is going up, not when it is going down.

In terms of energy use, hydraulic or electric lifts can be used. Workers choose hydraulic elevators because they consume less electricity, although the latter are faster.

However, this statement should not be taken as an absolute thing, but depends on each piece of equipment and other conditions affecting the elevator energy consumption, such as the method of use, the contracted price, and the reserve consumption. .

3 In addition, the latest developments in energy efficiency and consumption reduction have also reached hydraulic elevators, which is why some of this type have lower energy consumption levels than other electric elevators.

Therefore, there is a difference between the two regarding the installation capabilities according to the different spaces.

What are the advantages of hydraulic elevators?

1-The main advantage of hydraulic lifts is that they can be installed in confined spaces and allow moving of the machine room.

This makes them particularly useful for buildings in whose construction an elevator was not intended.

2-In addition, their operation is much smoother and less noisy, although it must be admitted that due to the latest technological developments, electrical appliances are almost equal to them in this respect.

3-With regard to the level of security, it can be said that they are safer for users (because of their double security system) and also for the operators responsible for their maintenance (because of their assembly method).

In addition, the lack of a counterweight makes it safer in the event of seismic movements.

4-Another advantage is the reduced need for maintenance since its components are subject to less wear.

This also has an impact on installation and maintenance prices which may be lower than electric elevator prices. For its part, assembly is simpler

Installing the elevator step by step

1. Check the condition of the civil works. Before starting the installation of the elevators, it is necessary to check that the civil works previously done to house the elevator structure have been properly carried out. It is necessary to review the place of arrival of the equipment, to carry out the temporary closure of the facades according to the factory, in addition to making sure that the available electrical power supply is suitable to start the installation work.

2. Moving the elevators to the installation site. The crew must arrive at the job site the same day the installation begins. Unloading must be done using forklifts or trucks specially equipped to transport this type of cargo. It should be noted that the storage space should be in ideal conditions of moisture and light.

3. Installing machines and control devices. The machine allows vertical movement through a network of steel cables mounted on vibration-absorbing rubber bands. For their part, the controls are an essential part of the elevator installation next to the machine. Engine rooms are usually located in the basements of buildings, although the installation of elevators with engine rooms located at the top of the hatch is increasingly common.

4. A platform for mounting rails. The rails are fixed to the last lower deck. Once the traction machine is in place, the platform suspension system is assembled and counterweights are installed, steel cables as guides and various rods. Next, both the platform and the speed regulator are connected with a wire.

5. Rail installation. The rails must be placed in the cab and on counterweights. The rails are essential to guide both the lift maintenance and the counterweight. As you can imagine, the installation of rails is one of the critical stages that involves many risks. Each rail level shall be installed and leveled to the required height according to the elevator installation drawings.

6. Installing doors. There are two main different types: the lateral type (left or right) and the central type. For installation, the supplier will require the builder to have the floor levels completed. First, the door frame supports are installed, and next, the floor frames are installed, leaving the upstairs jamb hanging.

7. Cabin assembly. Once the last floor is reached with the door frames installed, the cab is assembled on the last basement floor to finish the last door frame installation.

8. Doing electrical installations. At this stage, the electrical cables brought by the device are arranged and connected. This ensures that all elements are functioning and controlled properly.

9. Terminations. Once the cars are assembled and finished, the various components of the elevator, such as the car's handrails, base plates, and

 10. Start-up and inspection. The start-up of the elevators consists of calibrating several aspects such as:

Adjust the brakes and control.

Adjustment of settlement.

Safety in the engine room.

Adjusting the floor doors.

- Programming of buttons and indicators for each floor / floor of the building.

- Test run and data collection to be stored in the entry book.

The importance of maintenance for the elevator :

In terms of inspection, it is essential that a team of specialized engineers checks that quality, efficiency and safety standards are properly met. In total, the estimated installation time is usually not less than six months, and each of the ten stages described above takes between eight and ten months to complete. As you can see, the installation of lifts and elevators is a task that should only be performed by expert personnel.
